[guide] how to sign up for comiket
onsdag 14. august 2019 at 03:35
Hello! I thought I'd make an English guide for the comiket sign-up process for those who'd like to enter but aren't feeling too confident about their Japanese.

First off, what you'll need is
  • A circle.ms account (and a registered circle)
  • The comiket sign-up set (サークル参加申込書セット)
  • A Japanese address (has to be legit)
  • A Japanese phone number
Wait, you need some special documents to sign up? you might ask.
Yes. When signing up for the next event you will need to enter two codes that can only be found in said set. There are three ways to acquire them.

1 & 2) Order the set online from circle.ms.
At the top of their site there should be a tab saying "通販・商品一覧".
At the time of writing, it looks like this:

If you order the physical set (which is cheaper), you'll get an A4-ish sized envelope in the mail from circle.ms, containing the sign-up pamphlet. The online set option is fairly new, so I have yet to try it myself. However, it says the comiket registration can be started directly after purchase, and the two codes will be shown at the order confirmed page. Also, the codes will be linked to your current account and cannot be transferred.

3) Buy the set at the previous comiket.
The comiket official booths in most halls should be selling them throughout the duration of the market.

I bought mine in advance from circle.ms, and it looks like this.
Inside you'll find an invoice containing the two codes necessary for registration.
Yes, I did both cover and mosaic my codes to be safe.
The set also contains everything needed for mail sign-up, but we'll be doing it online so just ignore all that.

Now then, head to circle.ms again and choose the "イベント新規/申込中一覧" tab.
The next comiket at the time of writing is C97, so it looks like this, but it'll probably look different for C98 and later.

The first one is regular registration. The one below is for having two circles share one table (usually one space = half a table) and can only be done after both circles have finished the normal registration. I will not be covering this option in this guide.

next you'll end up at a page showing the event information, the rules and guidelines (run those through google translate to see) and the circle cut templates (A and B). Circle cuts are the images for each circle printed in the catalogue and on the online map. Important: leave the little square in the upper corner completely blank. Do not cover it or the side frames what so ever.
The one on the bottom is for the manga report and cannot be used as a circle cut. Use only A or B (which one is up to you). The file must contain your circle name (at the top), give the viewer a brief idea of what you'll be selling, and be under 4MB. It cannot be nsfw (as in full out showing privates and titties) and the recommended format is png.
Next up there should be another page of guidelines, and then you choose your circle. (Stealing this pic from circle.ms' own jp guide)
Choose the circle you want to sign up as and click the orange button at the bottom of the page. Now the actual filling out starts.
I'd recommend writing your name in katakana both times, unless you have a name in kanji. When you're done, hit the orange button at the bottom of the page.

The next page will ask you to confirm the information. Hit the orange button if it looks good or the grey if you need to change something.
You will now need to pay the registration fee.
I'm choosing credit card payment. The page for that should be pretty self explanatory. Hit the button saying 次へ to continue.
Please note: I am using a foreign debit card, so you do not need a Japanese one.
Next hit the blue button at the bottom and it'll take you back to circle.ms.

Note that you cannot cancel your registration after the payment deadline has passed. Nor can you change the circle name or anything other than the address and phone number you entered earlier. Click the orange button to continue.

Red fields are required and yellow ones public.

The questionaire is most likely different when one signs up for a latter comiket, so please use a translator to confirm the questions before answering.
Here's some some lists of occupations to use: one two.

Next they'll ask you about your sales results from last comiket. Leave blank if you didn't participate, and scroll down to the next one where they ask about what you'll be distributing at the upcoming comiket.

After that there's a semi long questionaire about last time's comiket. Skip if you didn't go/don't know Japanese.
Then you upload your circle cut (The grey ファイル選択 button) at the very top. Note that your circle cut will automatically be made greyscale. Find the section that says "Webカタログ用サークルカット" to upload a version in full colour (for the web catalogue) afterwards.

After that, scroll to the bottom, click the orange button and you're done!
You should be seeing this when looking at the registration status:

Now.... Time to wait for the results.

To edit your info (if the deadline hasn't passed), go to the イベント新規/申込中一覧 tab and scroll to the bottom until you see this.
On the next page you can edit each section by pressing the orange 更新 button.

This might be imperfect, but I hope it helps! Sorry but as a resident I'm not sure how to go about the address thing if you don't live here nor have a friend to help you. Maybe tenso or a similar proxy works, but I don't know. Don't take my word on it.

I'll update or make a part 2 when the results are out (if I get in, that is)

Been a while
tirsdag 13. august 2019 at 21:44
I haven't updated this blog in what, almost four years? My sidebar said I was still 19 even.

A lot of things have happened since then, but I'm hoping I can start using this blog again, even if just to scream into the void about my hobbies and interests.
Maybe I'll save up for a camera again, so I can take pictures like I used too. I miss that white table I used to use though.

Anyway, that's all I had to say for now. Hopefully I can keep this up again.

september's last manga batch
onsdag 30. september 2015 at 11:02
Hello! I sat up until 5 AM reading about web design and web hosting yesterday. Guess I'll figure out how to make my portfolio site eventually.

Today I got a new box of manga in the mail!
8 volumes of manga + one novel. I was so excited about this finally getting here so I could read the third volume of koi wa ameagari no you ni. I can't wait for the 4th one...

The novel is "Boku wa ashita, kinou no kimi to date suru" by Nanatsuki Takafumi. I don't know much about it, but it was on the romance bestseller list on amazon. Seems to be about time travel and stuff, so it'll be an interesting read. The manga is "Hatsukoi rakuen" by multiple authors. It says it's a "betsukomi best selection". It contains 7 one shots from the authors Risa Konno, Kanoko Sakurakouji, Haruka Fukushima, Natsumi Seki, Ringo Komori, Hiro Haruna and Chiyori. I haven't read it yet but I'm looking forward to it.

"Itoshi no nekokke - otoru hen" by Haruko Kumota. It's a prequel to the original Itoshi no nekokke series and it honestly breaks my heart... The art is gorgeous though, I definitely recommend the series if you're okay with BL. The next is "Hana wo meshimase" by Keiko Iwashita.

Then I got the two books from the original itoshi no nekokke I still haven't read (aka they haven't been scanlated yet.) These two have a really strong "manga smell" and make me feel like I'm back at animate looking through the huge BL selection.... I miss animate and book-off so much.
More BL. I love both of these artists so much. There are so many good BL mangakas? The one on the left is "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" by Ido Gihou and the other "Shirusareshi ai" by Tanato. I bought Tanato's Sneaky Red by chance last year and fell in love with their art. I think I mentioned that in an earlier entry though.
Gihou's art is really cute. I've read a bit of their other other manga "yasashiku oshiete" as well.

Then it's time for my number 1 love, koi wa ameagari no you ni! This is the only one I've already finished reading. It was good! The manager gets a hamster and becomes the centre of attention at work and Tachibana finds a new interest in classic literature as to get to know the manager better.
I could probably give a detailed recap of everything that happened but this isn't the place for that.

That's all! Remember to support your favourite authors if you can! I already have my eyes on a new order of books.... I need the next Asami-sensei volume.

25092015
fredag 25. september 2015 at 15:23
Hello! Time to make a more personal entry for a change. My mom's currently visiting because I am too much of a wuss to go to the embassy by myself. So, today started with us heading down to the Japanese embassy building. I had earlier talked to my Japanese teacher about having some documents translated, and she told me to go ask them first, so.... I did.

The embassy was.... really scary, in my opinion. First we had to have our bags checked and pass through a metal detector. Then we had to wait for a while. The room had a whole lot of Japanese books and a table with magazines and leaflets for various Japanese movies being shown in Norway and info about Japanese universities. I couldn't stop staring at the Hatsune Miku magazine though. Why was it there, I don't get it.

An old lady showed up after we had sat there a while. We had to talk to her through a glass and it felt like some sort of interrogation? She couldn't speak Norwegian and it didn't seem like she spoke much English either. In other words, communication was tedious. We eventually managed to get it through that we needed to have a document translated, but she said she couldn't help. I ended up getting a list of translators instead. But, my teacher said she could help me if they couldn't so I guess I'll go to her then!

Then afterwards we stopped by a kaffebrenneriet and got some hot chocolate and a cookie before visiting the july 22nd memorial center. The center is located in the government quarter, aka where the bomb went off july 22nd 2011.

The center consisted of several "small" rooms. The first one was a square shaped room with portraits of all the victims, most of them teenagers, lined up on the walls.

The main room had pictures of the chaos after the explosion on one wall and a timeline of everything that happened that day on the longest wall. It even included a bunch of tweets from people who knew people on the island and confused/concerned people. In the middle of the room was the remains of the car that contained the bomb and a collection of cameras and phones left behind on the island. The rest of the rooms had pictures of the flower march and the trial. They also had the culprit's fake police badge and items he kept in his pocket. Seeing something he's touched felt odd, if not disturbing. Just seeing his face disgusts me. I hope he rots in jail forever. You could also see a video of survivors talking about what they experienced. It sounded like something from a movie. Having to walk over piles of bodies, seeing your friends die... Absolutely horrible.

After having seen everything we headed to the shopping street to look for some things. We ended up bumping into Maren, Emy & Pam by chance. Awkward.... now they've met my mom!

We later headed up to Grünerløkka to get some food. We ended up going to Mathallen! I hadn't been there before but it was really cool! There was a Japanese shop there so we bought some dorayaki and a daifuku. Unfortunately, the shop we wanted to grab dinner at could only accept cash because of some technical issues, and uhm who even carries cash nowadays? so we had to go somewhere else. We ended up getting crêpes.

We then ended the day by seeing Bølgen at Ringen kino. It was better than I thought it was going to be? Could obviously have been better but I enjoyed it. Making disaster movies in tiny countries like this can't be easy.

It'll probably be out with English subs eventually.

Anzu Futaba scale
torsdag 17. september 2015 at 07:30
Hello! Today I tried bringing up the topic of anxiety/depression medication to my therapist and it looks like we might be getting somewhere this time.

That is, however, not the topic of todays entry.

I got the Anzu Futaba scale from the series the idolm@ster: cinderella girls by kotobukiya (mfc) a while ago but I didn't open her until now. We're in the middle of rain season right now so the lighting isn't the best and the pictures are kinda grainy!

The box is pretty cute. Rather plain.
The front
The back
As you can see it's mainly see-through except for one of the sides.

The rabbit shaped window is nice though. It reminds me of her plushie.

Here she is in all of her neet glory.  I only got her with the default face even though the exclusive sleepy-looking one was a lot cuter. Anzu is very relatable in a sad way, and she's absolutely adorable so I had to get her.

I wish I could wear pajamas every day too...

"Hataraitara, make"  if you work, you lose.  I want one of these t-shirts too to be honest.
The stuffed rabbit doesn't look as tattered as usual, but that's probably for the best. Gotta give it some rest you know.
All the details on the folds near her butt though... I wish this sculptur could come sculpt me a new butt to be honest.
Her loose t-shirt hangs off, exposing her shoulder super slob style, or some might find it sexy or something.
All in all I think she's very cute. I'm not that into im@s to be honest, but I really like Anzu's design. Or, actually, I'm very fond of almost all the cinderella girls' designs. I downloaded the phone game Starlight Stage not too long ago and I haven't played much but it looks pretty good! I should probably finish the anime soon, too. I'm at ep 5 or something ahah. Fake fan #1.

OH! Another P5 trailer released as I was writing this! Looks good, I'm pumped!

Hachikuji Mayoi prize figure
torsdag 10. september 2015 at 15:55
Hello! Today it's time to talk about one of the many figures I've received recently. As you can probably tell by the title, it's the recent Hachikuji prize figure by Taito. (MFC)
I ordered it a couple of months before the preview pictures were up, and got genuinely worried when they first posted them because the figure looked really bad! You can't expect prize figures to have good quality but the colours looked awful.

Thankfully it's not that bad in person!

Here's the front and one of the sides of the box. The back looked about the same as the front except a bit more simplistic.

It's made to fit together with a Shinobu figure which has yet to be released.

Now to the figure itself.

Here she is! Doesn't look too bad, does it?

There are a few deviations from the illustration re: the hand and eyes, and I don't know what's going on with the donut. And I'm still not too fond of how they did her eyebrows as they sometimes get hidden by her bangs. (See the box art if you want to know what I mean)

There are a few mistakes in the paint-job but it doesn't really matter considering how cheap it was.

She's cute from the side too! But...

Paint smearsssss.... Her collar and her uniform looks sweet though.

Further back there's the name-tag on her backpack! Looks pretty good. Then the other side.

A teddybear stuffed in her backpack's side pocket! Didn't notice the dust on her hair until after I'd opened all the files in photoshop but I couldn't be arsed to edit it off. Sorry.

All in all it could have been better but I'm not disappointed with the figure. I'm not too fond of prize figures in general, but I really love both Hachikuji and Shinobu so I wanted to get them. I haven't preordered the Shinobu one yet though, I'd like to actually wait for pictures this time. I ordered it from BiJ, by the way.

Well, see ya!

it's time to READ
søndag 23. august 2015 at 12:00

Got in a bunch of manga, two books and a cd this week!
From top to bottom it's koi wa ameagari no you ni volume 1 and 2, Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan, Asami-sensei no himitsu and toki wo kakeru shoujo.

The cd is yume no manimani from siinamota and the book is kokuhaku by Minato Kanae.
Yume no manimani is hard to get nowadays but I managed to snag a used copy off amazon.jp! I had to use a proxy seeing as the seller only did domestic shipping but, honestly, it was worth it. Siinamota's works means a lot to me, especially now that he's gone.

I mentioned in my last entry about this series that I had ordered the tankobons, and here they are. I think it's nice to own physical copies of series you like. The Obi on vol 1 features Aoi Honoo, and vol 2 I am a hero.

Opposite order from before, but here are the backs of the tankobon. The manager stays in the back while Tachibana is the cover girl, hah. I don't know what the design for vol 3 looks like yet, but I'm guessing it'll be like this too. I hope there will be a cover of them together someday though....

The inside looks the same as the scans, obviously.

Moe...

Next is Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan. Most of the comics (if not all) are posted on the mangaka's pixiv, but the tankobon has improved art and the text is typed instead of handwritten.

It's a love comedy about the 16 year old high-school girl Amai Yayoi and the teacher Shiota Tsuguharu.

I'm absolutely in love with the mangaka's art style and find the characters very endearing.

It doesn't have any of the usual angst most senseixseito mangas have, except maybe in the last chapter when he's sad about her graduating (except it's a dream but you know)

Relationship goals. I'm starting to feel sad about no longer being a high schooler.....

Then we have these two. I read the first chapter of Asami-sensei in English here, and ended up buying the first volume for some reason. I wish I knew Spanish so I could read their scanlation.
The book is the book behind the movie Confessions, which is one of my favourites. It'll probably take a while to read but I really want to try!

Toki wo kakeru shoujo, better known to us as "The girl who leapt through time"!

I wanted to read the novel, but ended up getting this anime version of the book. Oops. I can still read it, but I can't bring it with me to read on my way to uni etc.

As you can see it features caps from the movie along with the text. It has furigana, so it'll be easier to read!

Hopefully I'll get started on it too. I really hope I can become fluent in Japanese one day....

The cd and kokuhaku are from amazon.jp (used tenso as proxy) and everything else is from yesasia!
